Georgia GeorgiaNino Agdgomelashvili

Social and human rights activist

Nino Agdgomelashvili is a social and human rights activist who is deeply involved with people with mental disorders and disabilities in Georgia. 


She worked for the “Association for People in Need of Special Care” in a social rehabilitation centre for adults with mental disabilities (2001-2007); was a director of the Georgian Mental Health Coalition (2007-2009) trying to promote the rights-based and contemporary mental health policy; Nino is with Global Initiative on Psychiatry-Tbilisi since 2009 and leads number of activities and programs, related to establishment of community-based services, mental health workforce capacity building, human rights promotion, users empowerment , awareness raising and anti-stigma campaigning. During last years her special interest lays in developing a chain of protected living environment facilities in Georgia and fostering social entrepreneurship, ensuring equal opportunities and inclusion of people with mental health problems.
 
She is on board of the community Qedeli for people with mental disabilities; serves as an expert to numerous councils and is coordinating a working group on national guidelines and treatment protocols.
